James River Parade of Lights

Each year, boaters decorate their vessels and converge on the James River for a boat parade marking the festive holiday season. Spectators will line the shorelines at several viewing sites along the parade route, which runs from Richmond to Henricus Historical Park in Chesterfield County.

Chesterfield County – Henricus Historical Park (251 Henricus Park Road, Chester, VA 23836) or Dutch Gap Boat Landing (441 Coxendale Road, Chester, VA 23836)

A full lineup of entertainment will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Bluff. Viewing of the boat parade will begin approximately at 7:30 – 7:45 p.m. (Dutch Gap) & 7:45 – 8:00 p.m. (Henricus Historical Park) Refreshments will be made available by vendors. Dress warmly and bring a flashlight.

Henrico County – Osborne Boat Landing (9530 Osborne Turnpike, Henrico, VA 23231)

The entertainment will begin at 4:00 p.m. This unforgettable evening culminates with the passing of the lighted boat parade between 7 – 7:30 p.m. Refreshments will be made available by vendors. Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring a flashlight. Come early because parking is limited.

City of Richmond – Libby Hill (Corner of 28th and East Franklin Streets, Richmond, VA 23219) and Intermediate Terminal Dock (Dock and Water streets)

Join the countdown for the illumination of the Annual James River Parade of Lights at Libby Hill Park. Come early to enjoy entertainment while waiting for the grand illumination of the boats participating in the parade. Entertainment begins at 4:30 p.m. The dazzling illumination will occur and the parade will begin at 6:00 p.m. Refreshments will be available…Bring your kids and neighbors.

Viewing only will be available at the Dock Street site at 6:00 p.m. Parking is limited. Please come early.

Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring a flashlight and binoculars. Come early because parking is limited.

Important information

Registration for boaters is now closed.

Trailerable boats and large vessels are encouraged to participate.

Slips are available at no charge for overnight, space is limited so reserve early!

After-celebration activities will be held immediately following the parade at Richmond Yacht Club. Awards will be presented and winners will be recognized at the celebration. Awards are given in several categories based on the judges' results. In addition, raffles prizes will be awarded to boater participants. All boaters along with their guests participating in the parade are welcome to attend the after-parade celebration at no cost.
